Volunteer Resources
Volunteers are the heart of SMART Reading! SMART Reading was founded on the idea that communities should be involved in children’s education. Since our start in 1992, we have been in awe of our amazing volunteers and their generosity and commitment to building a brighter future for Oregon’s children. We rely on volunteers for every level of our organization’s work, from reading with students, book cleaning at the Children’s Book Bank, and onsite program coordination to leadership expertise, office work, data entry, fundraising, and event planning. Thank you, volunteers!

Spread the Word about SMART
Word of mouth is the #1 way that new volunteers find out about SMART. As volunteers, you know how rewarding and fun it is to help kids build their confidence as readers, to carefully restore used books at the Children’s Book Bank, or to watch a child excitedly select books to keep. Help us reach more children by inviting your friends, family, and colleagues to join you as a volunteer!
