World Read Aloud Day
Take the Reading Matters Pledge
Step 1 of 2
Thank you for joining SMART Reading for World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 5, 2020! Like us, you believe that reading matters and that literacy forms the critical foundation for a child’s success in school and beyond. We are issuing a challenge to get 10,000 Oregonians to participate in World Read Aloud Day by reading with kids in their lives, whether that’s a child, grandchild, niece or nephew, friend, sibling, cousin, SMART Reading student, or otherwise. For those who want to participate but aren’t able to read with a child, we welcome your help spreading the word about the campaign and the critical importance of reading with children. Please read on to take the Reading Matters pledge! World Read Aloud Day is hosted by LitWorld, an NYC-based nonprofit, and is designed to celebrate the joy of reading and literacy as a fundamental human right for all. Learn more about LitWorld here:
Reading Matters Pledge:
I believe that reading is the gateway to learning and opportunity for Oregon’s kids. I commit to reading aloud with a child in my life and/or spreading the word about the critical importance of reading with children on World Read Aloud Day, observed on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
*If you’re a SMART Reading volunteer and your scheduled reading session doesn’t happen on Wednesdays, we’ll count your existing reading session during the week of Feb. 3-7 for purposes of the pledge.
I do not want to receive email communication from SMART Reading
outside of this campaign.
I plan to participate in World Read Aloud Day by doing the following:
Reading with a child in my life on Feb. 5
Reading with a child in SMART Reading the week of Feb. 3-7 (current volunteers only)
Posting on my social media channels
Sharing information with my networks through email and other means
Signing up to be a SMART Reading volunteer
Making a gift to SMART Reading
