Endowment and Named Funds
The founders of SMART Reading envisioned complimenting the operating budget with a permanent fund in hopes that it would someday contribute to the organization’s long-term financial viability and ensure that children of Oregon would have more successful futures through books and reading. SMART Reading partnered with The Oregon Community Foundation and a core group of donors to establish the endowment fund in 1992.
Today donors can add to the endowment or establish a permanent, named fund designated for SMART Reading and managed by The Oregon Community Foundation. Named funds may benefit our students throughout the state or within a specific county, per the donor’s request.
Immediate and estate gifts are welcomed. Gifts can be designated for statewide or county use. There are endowment funds designated respectively for SMART Reading students in Deschutes, Jackson, Klamath, and Lane counties, as well as a “statewide” fund. The endowed funds total $2 million.
Donors may contribute to existing funds in any amount or establish a separate, named fund with a minimum gift of $50,000.
