Across Oregon, kids aren’t meeting reading benchmarks, despite the efforts of our hard-working educators and families. We want to change that, but we can’t do it alone.

SMART Reading is funded almost entirely by private gifts from individuals, foundations and businesses. This means each and every gift ensures our work goes further—providing vital reading support to more than 11,000 of Oregon’s kids every year. With shared reading time and free books to keep, SMART Reading directly helps each young reader and delivers long-term benefits statewide by building literacy in each community.

There are four easy ways to give:

  1. Make a gift online today! Your donations help provide reading support and books to keep to kids in your community.
  2. Become a Sustaining SMARTie. Provide consistent support in your community with a recurring gift. No checks to write, no payments to remember. You’ll receive a single gift acknowledgement in January that reflects all giving in the prior calendar year to use for tax purposes. You can increase, decrease, or cancel your monthly charge at any time. To set up a monthly gift, visit our donation page and select “Yes, automatically repeat this gift every month.”

3. Phone us toll-free at 877-598-4633.

4. Send a check payable to: SMART Reading, 101 SW Market St, Portland, OR 97201.

Your gift stays local! Gifts stay in the donor’s county unless otherwise specified. If a donor lives outside of the state or in a county without SMART Reading programs, gifts are applied to the area of greatest need. Our Federal Tax ID number is 93-1051724.
