Celebrate National Book Month With Us!

October

In honor of National Book Month in October, we’re inviting the community to take part in activities to raise awareness about the importance of book access for children. We’re also raising funds to help get inclusive books into the hands of Oregon kids as part of our A Story Like Mine initiative!

A Story Like Mine: A Conversation About Inclusive Books

Books are one of the first tools kids use to learn about the world around them. You’re invited to join SMART Reading and some special guests for a webinar about why getting books into the hands and homes of children is so critical.
In a moment where efforts to ban books that include marginalized identities are on the rise nationally, we’ll discuss why all children benefit from access to engaging, inclusive books that uplift their own identities, give them windows into the lives of others, and teach them about both the wonders and challenges of our world – and how you can help!
Attendees will also learn about how to get involved by volunteering or making a gift to help fund the purchase of inclusive books.
Date: Thursday, Oct. 12
Time: 12 - 1 PM
Hosts: Jessica Bowersox and Rashelle Chase-Miller
Panelists: Jelani Memory, other panelists TBD
Click here to register for the webinar
Want to continue the conversation? After the webinar, we're hosting two hour-long interactive book discussions where we’ll read and talk about a children’s book from our collection.
Session #1: Monday, Oct. 16, 10 - 11 AM
Session #2: Thursday, Oct. 26, 12 - 1 PM
