SMART Reading is seeking a full-time Area Administrator for our programs and operations in Klamath County. SMART Reading is the state’s largest volunteer-based nonprofit literacy organization. SMART Reading partners with schools around the state and engages community volunteers to read one-on-one with nearly 11,000 PreK through 3rd grade children annually, helping strengthen literacy skills and encourage a love of reading. Participating children also receive new books each month to keep in order to begin building their own personal library.

Your position as an Area Administrator will focus on supporting the Area Manager in program implementation, volunteer management and recruitment, fundraising and administrative duties. A ‘day-in-the-life’ for this role may include scheduling and training volunteers, conducting school visits, managing office calendars, composing donor correspondence, entering volunteer and other data into databases and reports and much more. The Area Administrator will be based out of our Klamath Falls office, and will work with the South Central team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting children’s literacy, a strong commitment to equity, stellar organizational skills, strong typing and computer skills and be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Your team members have developed the following “must have” requirements:

  • Bi-lingual/Spanish speaking; intermediate
  • Personal character, which guides the ethical practice of your work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and duties
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a learning, growing organization
  • Ability and means to travel to local sites as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required
  • A sense of service and commitment to helping the children of Oregon learn to read

Bonus skills (preferred but not required):

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
  • Experience in recruiting, supervision, development and evaluation of volunteers
  • Experience in community partnership building
  • Proficient computer skills to include Google, Microsoft Office and database experience
